How to Choose the Right Watch Size for Your Wrist. A practical WatchVanta guide with photographs and explanations of what to look for.
Start with case diameter
Case diameter is usually measured across the watch case without including the crown. A number alone does not determine fit: bezel width, dial opening, and case shape can make two watches of the same diameter look very different. Try watches on when possible and compare measurements from the manufacturer.
Check lug-to-lug length
Lug-to-lug length measures from the tip of one set of lugs to the other. It is often more useful than diameter for judging whether a watch overhangs your wrist. Case thickness also affects whether the watch sits comfortably under a shirt cuff. Check published dimensions for the specific reference.
Bracelet and strap fit
A well-fitted bracelet or strap should hold the watch securely without pinching. Leather can feel different from metal, rubber, or fabric; taper and clasp design affect comfort. When shopping online, check whether the bracelet can be resized and whether replacement straps use a standard or proprietary attachment.
